Home Vigils and Family Led Death Care

At A Beautiful Life Funerals, we understand that saying goodbye to someone you love can’t be rushed. For some families, having a little more time at home after a loved one passes can bring great comfort and peace while assisting with the grief journey.

A Home Vigil is a respectful time where your loved one remains at home for a period, usually 1 – 3 days following their death. In New South Wales, your person can stay home for up to five dats after their death.

There is no set way to hold a Home Vigil—it can be as simple or as structured as you feel is right. Some families light candles, play favourite music, read poems or prayers, or simply sit in silence. Others prefer to have a few visitors come and go, spend time together sharing memories and honouring the life of the person who has passed.

What matters most is that it feels natural and meaningful to you.

Our role is to gently guide and support you through this process. We can help with planning, care, and all practical details, so you feel confident and reassured at every step.

If you would like to know more about whether a Home Vigil might be right for your family, please call us.

We are here to honour your wishes and walk beside you.
